Recently, my
family went to eat at a restaurant with some friends. We were enjoying our fellowship and meal. During the occasional lull in the
conversations I would look around, keeping an eye on my surroundings, listening,
etc. During one particular lull in the conversation, a song came on and I
took notice of it. It went something like:
This girl is on fire, yeah
This girl is on fiiiiiirrrrrre!
Oh this girl is on fire.
My first thought
was “Someone grab a fire extinguisher.” The
whirring blast of music seemed to be something that climbed out of hell’s
pits. Then I thought of, “strange fire”. You all are probably familiar with the event that occurred
in Leviticus 10: 1 – 2, when Aaron’s two sons: Nadab and Abihu offered a
strange fire before the Lord; and the Lord sent out a fire and consumed them
that they died. (Obviously, we can gather that strange fire does not please the Lord.)
The singer was definitely
on fire, but it was strange fire. A fire that was not of God. We all know that the true fire is God’s Holy
Spirit. Everyone is anointed by a fire,
there is always something that is behind the way people live their lives. How many want to trade their strange fire for the Holy Spirit? There is no fire that can even compare to that!
If that young girl
can get up in front of thousands at a rock concert and proclaim her fire, screaming it from the top of her lungs--- then
why don't we proclaim ours?! Whats wrong with us today? We have the best and brightest fire that has ever hit the face of the earth and we plug through life not saying a word of it to anyone. If you have that fire you can't keep silent, praise God! Don’t hide your
light under a bushel, let it shine! Will you be on fire for Christ? Who will stand in this world of darkness, oh brothers and sisters let us stand!
Lord, let Your fire come down,
Oh Lord let Your fire come down,
Oh Lord let Your fire come down,
And baptize everyone!
Amen! Amen! Amen!
