I Celebrate October 31st - (Part II) Senior Blogger: Sharron M.

Greetings!  Thought I'd re-share last year's post. Please enjoy.

Someone asked if I celebrated October 31st.  I said, "Yes."

Another person asked if I celebrated Halloween.  I said, "No."

    Confused?  There is an explanation!

Did you know that a historical event took place on October 31st, and it had nothing at all to do with Halloween?  Well, there is.

On October 31st, the year 1517; Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of Wittenburg Castle Church.  A theses is a proposition, question, statement or idea; and Martin Luther had 95 of them disputing the idea of "indulgences".  Indulgences addressed the partial remission of the punishment of sins.

Martin Luther believed that only Jesus Christ could forgive, and absolve our sins.  If Jesus was unable to do this, then what was the purpose of coming to earth to die on the cross?

This event fueled the fires of the Reformation, a 16th-century movement calling for the reformation of abuses in the Roman Catholic Church.  The Reformation ended in the establishment of the Reformed and Protestant Churches.

Martin Luther took a stand for what he believed was right, he stood for the simple reason of Jesus Christ's death was to forgive our sin and nothing else could take His place.  I find myself in agreement, and this heroic and historic piece of history is worth celebrating!

It is my desire that next year, Lord willing, I can share ideas, games, and projects to have your own Reformation celebration!  God bless you richly and thank you for reading.
