Last week's article by Quezia was titled "The Proving of Our Faith". This young lady did an amazing job on this article, if you haven't read it yet you can click on the link to do so: The Proving Of Our Faith.
For awhile now, I have had a certain subject that I have been wanting to write an article about, it wasn't until I read Quezia's article that I finally decided how I was going to approach the subject: "Proven Weapons".
Smoke from the battle clouds your vision. You look down and see that your hand is empty. You need a weapon. Looking around you see a sword on the ground. The enemy is approaching; this might be your last chance for victory. Running toward the sword and snatching it up you turn around to face him.
His armor is dented from many battles and he wields a sword of his own with deadly and precise accuracy. You dodge and bring up your own sword in defense. The sound of battle is all around you and you watch your enemy lift his sword again. You raise yours. His sword comes down against yours with all the speed and strength he has. And then… your sword snaps in two.
How many a battle has been lost because the weapon could not hold up to the challenge, to the situation, the pressure of active duty? In the time of history, a similar scenario has unfolded thousands of time not only in a physical battle, but in the spiritual battle. Many times people try to break bad habits, addictions, obsessions, craving, behaviors, and lifestyles only to be caught up once again in the vicious cycle, within only a short amount of time. For many, there is no escape--- they are caught in sin and will be imprisoned in it… unless they have the right weapons to escape it.
The Word of God is our first weapon and very powerful. “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12.
God’s Word is powerful and can inflict damage on our enemies, but we first need to learn how to wield this Two-edged Sword. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Memorizing scripture and applying it to our lives is a wonderful way to use the Weapon God has given us.
Our weapon encourages us:
• Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. – I Timothy 6:12
• Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. –Joshua 1:7
Our weapon keeps us safe:
• The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10
• The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe. –Proverbs 21:25
Our weapon cannot be defeated:
• These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. –John 16:33
• Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. – I John 4:4
• Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment. – Ecclesiastes 8:5
God gave us more wonderful weapons: prayer and faith.
• Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. – Mark 11:24
• Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. – James 5:16
• Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: - Romans 5:11
• Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. – I Corinthians 16:13
• For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. – Galatians 3:26
• And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. – James 5:15
To be in battle for some, is a very fearful thing. Many times there are casualties: family members, friends, people you know… But God gave us a weapon to combat our fears, one of the most powerful weapons of all. Love. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” – John 4:18 We never need to be afraid to enter into battle so long as God is with us.
God has given us all the weapons we need to be brave, strong, fearless, and courageous in battle so that we might withstand all temptation, snares, and evils that the devil has formed against us. The best part of all of this… is that these weapons really work! These weapons have been proven since the beginning of time that they are more than able to defeat the devil.
When we go into battle, we go prepared: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” – Ephesians 6:10-18
So when we enter the battle, there is no need to fear. Your sword won’t be broken by the enemy if you hold to it, your faith won’t be defeated when placed in God, your prayers will always be answered when you approach God correctly, and God will give you His unending love to take away your fears! These weapons will work… it has already been proven by the ones who lived by faith since the beginning of time. It is proven, for there is no other way Jesus could have defeat death, hell, and the grave. He defeated these things for us.
There is no need to wait any longer. Pull on your amour, learn to use the weapons God has given you, and trust in Him, the Giver of all good gifts!
