The word “Christian” means: One Who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. What do people see, when they look at us? Are we reflecting Christ? If we are reflecting these teachings, people will see Jesus and His Character. Our attitudes, words, and how we dress all reveal what we are transmitting. When we focus on Christ, and His Word is present in our lives, we will be reflecting Light in a World full of darkness.
We can reflect that Light in our family, at work or wherever else we go. Jesus will be seen through our actions, our values, testimony and character. The very atmosphere we live in can be transformed when we manifest the love of God.
We read in 1 John 2:5-6 "But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith He abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” If anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.
How can we reflect Jesus? Having the looks of Him in the way we act, talk and solve problems, we can demonstrate His character and essence with love, gentleness, mercy, compassion, and justice. We are not perfect, we have many faults, but through our lives we can be a positive influences on our friends, other youth, and even at work. Parents should also demonstrate the teachings of Jesus to their children. The people will see Jesus through what we say and what we do. Our lives become living witnesses. We also know that we are not alone. The Lord will be present among us when we seek Him with all our heart.
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. As Philippians 2:5 says, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:”
When we become followers of Christ, we must reflect and practice the teachings we find in the Bible, some seem difficult in certain situations in our life, but not impossible, we have our Savior as our example. Paul says, in 1 Corinthians 11:1, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”
In the Bible we find teachings to we reflect in our mirror of life:
• But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
• Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29)
• For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Matthew 6:14)
• So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
• Do not judge, or you too will be judged according to the way you judge now. (Matthew 7:01)
There are some interest aspects of mirrors. For one, they should be well directed. If the source of light is taken away, it will not reflect, the mirror must not be covered with any cloth and must be clean of all dust or stains, so that it can reflect perfectly. We must stay directed to the source of Light, we cannot go away from the Word, we must remove all dirt (sin) and mundane things that displease God.
We must have the desire in our heart reflect Jesus in everything we do. In knowing Him, our actions, choices and decisions can be according to His Word. We become what we behold. The Christian reflects, like a mirror, the Glory that he looks continuously. We will be mirrors reflecting the teachings of the Lord in all aspects of our lives, not looking at ourselves and our faults, but looking at Jesus. We will be radiating His light and His love. God wants to use our lives as instruments to reflect His Word, His Light amid darkness of this World.
But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).
