The Perfect Hairstyle - By: Senior Blogger, Sharron M.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning.  Sparkling dewdrops glistened like jewels on my window.  Light streamed through like bright ribbons of gold.  My outfit was laid across my bed, crisply pressed and smoother than silk.

Donning my splendid wardrobe, I slipped the silvery, glass beads over my head.  Successfully, I've transformed into the princess I've read about in fairy-tales.  Just one final step, styling my hair.

I run the brush through my hair and twist the thick strands up for a french twist up-do.  But what's this?  Strands bubble out from the side, even as short frizzy strands stick out above my hairline.  That can't be right.  I run the brush through my hair and twist it again before looking in the mirror.  The results looked worse than the first time.  This can't be happening!

I've read it in countless of novels, the heroine always has picture perfect hair.  Even when she is slaving away in the kitchen or has been lost in the forest for hours, her hair curls charmingly about her face, framing it, slightly damp from perspiration.

Again I comb through my hair, but the results are dismal.  Actually, the days are rare that I can get my hair exactly right... but maybe our media culture has somewhat twisted what we expect our hair to look like.  How many times have you read, "Her hair was pulled in a soft bun at the nape of her neck, not a strand out of place"?

Hmm, not exactly realistic considering that hair has its own unique qualities.  Not every strand is the same length, or has the same texture.  Every once in a while you get a frizzy strand that won't lay down flat, I guess that is what people call a "wild hair".  But because hair is different lengths it isn't always going to be captured easily in a hairstyle.  The little "fly-a-ways" are natural and really, everyone has them.

I know the advertised hair products has the hair "brushed over" (excuse the pun, lol), photo shopped, so that all is left is a silky mass of perfect hair.  But maybe we shouldn't be taking the world point of view, so what does the Bible say about hair?

1 Corinthians 11:15   But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

So it doesn't say that the hair style has to be perfect.  If you sisters have long hair, you have glory.  Glory is defined as honor, praise, magnificent, and great beauty.  :)  Knowing that, makes me less critical of my hair's appearance.  I still take care of it, still shampoo and condition it, I take vitamins, and I am careful how I comb it.  But if there are a few fly-a-ways or fuzzy strands when I look into the mirror on Sunday morning, it won't become my primary focus.  Yes, I still want to look my best, but my focus shouldn't be on myself, but rather on my Creator.  And that is how it should be.
