"Emotion or Fact?" By: Senior Blogger Sharron M.
This year I have been faced with some challenging decision making. Not only challenging, but agonizingly difficult.
Part of the reason why decision making is so difficult for people is that we let our emotions get involved. Emotions are natural is often times the driving force of many of our actions.
I don't believe people when they say that they don't let their emotions influence them. Emotion is defined as: a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. If you have ever felt sorrow, joy, peace, anger, hurt, bitter, loyal, fearful, or love... you have experienced emotion. Congratulations, you are part of the human race!
There is nothing wrong with having emotions. Jesus had emotions. He cried at the Garden of Gethsemane, He was angry when He drove out the merchants from selling in the temple, He felt compassion when He healed. In fact, the whole reason that He came to redeem us was because He loved us.
Having emotions can be difficult though, and if you are a woman, your reel of emotions are that much stronger. In my opinion, women feel things much more deeply and are more sensitive to many things verses their male counterpart. In saying this, I am not implying that guys have no heart and are completely immune to emotions. Perhaps it is mere speculation on my part, or perhaps women just expresses their emotions more than guys???
Anyway, you should not be ashamed of emotions. Godly emotions are a good thing, because they are based on God's word: love, respect, faith. Emotions are meant to be expressed, and sometimes that means tears (sorry ladies).
It is equally important that you control your emotions and look as diligently at the "hard, cold facts" as my friends quote me saying. There should be a good balance between facts and emotion. Because emotion is what drives us, it can never be ruled out completely. Let's face it, emotion sometimes defies logic and reasoning. Things that were thought impossible, suddenly are. Once again: love, loyalty, self-sacrifice are emotions that sometimes tip the situation in the individuals favor.
It is difficult for me to argue for logic and reasoning in the face of emotion; but God promised to give us the wisdom we need to overcome life's trials. Facts are facts, but prayer changes things.
With the recent decisions I have made; I have wept, prayed, and beseeched God for wisdom and His assurance. I have made the choices I thought are right and time will tell whether they were or not. In the meantime, I will remain confident in God's love and promise.
I do apologize if this article seems to be a bit rambling. I am experiencing a lot of changes and challenges at this time. I do appreciate my readers' prayers, and the kind words that ya'll send from time to time. It really makes a difference. A big thank you to all my readers, and please, if there is anything that you would like me to pray for you, just leave a comment below or IM me. God bless you brothers and sisters!
