"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
This scripture in Matthew has impacted my life tremendously.
Our Lord Jesus knows that we labor, that burdens are heavy. How does He know this? Because He came down to be formed into the image of man so that He could die for our sins.
I've come to rely on the rest He gives in two ways, and that is something I would like to share with you today.
I average about 4-5 hours of sleep each night. I don't have any health problems, it is just that I am a very light sleeper.
In the morning I have plenty of energy. I keep busy all day long, but because I sleep so little at night, I have to supplement with a 15-30 minute nap in the late afternoon. Sometimes, I am so busy that I cannot take this rest. Instead, I pray to the Lord and ask Him to give me strength and rest. He always does and never once has He failed me.
Another area in my life that I rely on His rest is when I am concerned, frustrated, or troubled. A lot of people: friends, siblings, co-workers, and random strangers confide in me. They share their frustrations, their challenges, and their loss with me. Sometimes, it is emotionally overwhelming. I agonize with them over their struggles, offer my support, and pray. But after that, they will continually come upon my heart. I need the Lord, and I need to rest on His mercy, grace, and power to change things; for me to have peace.
The Lord knows that I want to help others, and that I expend a lot of time and effort to do so. He knows that I need rest, and He gives to me. I am so grateful that He does.
What about you? Is there a time specifically that you have relied on or needed the rest only He could give? I'd love to hear your testimony, just comment in the box below.
As usual, thank you for reading. May God richly bless you.
